Der zwischen beiden gefhrte Briefwechsel der Jahre 1938 1970 berbrckt die grte Zeitspanne aller Celan Briefwechsel und ist zwischen beiden Briefpartnern ausgewogen wie kein zweiter. 1938 beginnt die Korrespondenz mit einem langen Brief Celans aus Tours, einem der frhesten bekannten Briefe des Dichters berhaupt.
