Sie wurde 1966 speziell fr Prsident Fidel Castro kreiert und in der damals geheim gehaltenen, heute jedoch weltberhmten Manufaktur "El Laguito" hergestellt. Neben dem Eigenverbrauch durch die kubanische Fhrung waren die Cohibas ausschlielich als reprsentative Geschenke fr Staatsoberhupter und Diplomaten bestimmt. 1982 wurde die Cohiba auf dem internationalen Markt prsentiert. Seit 2007gibt es die Lnea Maduro.
